Fall Activities to Do With Your Kids

Fall is one of those seasons that makes you want to slow down a little — cozy sweaters, crunchy leaves, warm drinks, and the kind of simple fun that doesn’t need a screen. If your kids are anything like mine, they’d happily watch a movie the second they’re bored, but sometimes the best memories come from the moments where we unplug and just do life together.

FAMILY & KIDS

Here are some of my favorite things to do with kids in the fall. They’re simple, low-cost, and fun for the whole family.

1. Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Head outside with a little list of fall treasures: red leaf, acorn, pinecone, feather, smooth rock. Let your kids collect and check them off as they go. You can even bring the treasures home and make a craft (like a nature collage or leaf rubbings).

2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

It doesn’t get more “fall” than this. Let the kids pick their own pumpkins, and when you get home, paint them, carve them, or decorate them with stickers. Bonus: roasted pumpkin seeds make a perfect snack.

3. Bake a Fall Treat

Fall is cozy-baking season. Make apple muffins, pumpkin bread, or even just cinnamon-sugar cookies. Let the kids pour, stir, and of course, taste-test. It’s messy but worth it.

4. Rake Leaves (and Jump in Them!)

Turn yard work into fun. Give the kids small rakes, make a big leaf pile, and let them go wild. Simple, free, and full of giggles.

5. Fall Activity Book

From coloring pages to seasonal connect the dots, these printable fall activity books are great for everyone and can be reprinted and re-used throughout the season.

6. Take a Fall Family Nature Walk

Bundle up, grab some hot cocoa in travel mugs, and head out for a family walk. Notice the colors, the crunch under your shoes, and the smell of fall air. Sometimes the simplest things are the most grounding.

7. Backyard Bonfire (or Indoor Picnic)

If you can, make a small backyard fire pit evening — marshmallows, blankets, and storytelling. No fire pit? Do an indoor blanket fort picnic and make it just as cozy.

8. Have an Apple Taste Test

Buy a few different apple varieties from the store and have a blindfolded apple taste test at home.

9. Create a Fall-Themed Coloring Station

Pull out coloring pages (pumpkins, scarecrows, leaves) and set up a little station with crayons and markers.

10. Stargazing in Sweaters

On a clear night, bundle the kids in blankets, grab some hot chocolate, call some friends and look up at the stars. Fall nights come early — perfect for little ones who don’t usually get to see the sky so dark.

Final Thoughts

Fall is such a cozy, memory-making season. You don’t need fancy trips or a packed schedule to make it special — just a little creativity, some fresh air, and time together.

So this fall, make a leaf pile, bake the muffins, or grab that scavenger hunt list — and soak in the beauty of the season.
